Congratulations in taking the first step to personal change. Seeking help is a sign of health, not weakness. I have designed this web site as an educational as well as informational tool. I am a fully licensed clinical psychologist. If you are seeking help with individual issues, such as: depression, anxiety or marital/relationship issues this practice can prove helpful.
People have asked me what to look for in a psychologist and what to expect from a therapy session so I am including a brief synopsis at the beginning of this website. Answers to other questions are on the FAQ page.
It is important to remember that not all therapy is alike. Whether you choose this practice or not, please remember that the credentials of your clinician make an important difference in the well being of a loved one, yourself or in the health of a relationship. Be careful of your selection of a psychologist or marriage counselor since there is much at stake this is not the time to look for the best deal. Make sure your clinician is highly qualified.
It is also important to realize that not every psychologist or counselor can do everything. If you find a clinician that says they can do it "all" ask them their course work in your specific problem, be it: addiction, weight, relationship, children, depression, anxiety or testing for court - get a specialist. You wouldn't want a pediatrician to work on your brain or a brain surgeon to work on your infant. The same thing applies to therapy.
When you enter the session, it is vitally important to be as totally honest as you can be. The more honest you are the less inquiry the therapist has to delve into and the faster (i.e., cheaper) your therapy will be. Say exactly what is on your mind.
Be assured that what is in this session is confidential and only open to your and your therapist. I hope this has been helpful to you and good luck in your quest.
